I am a little late to the party but here I am to take part in cpd23! I am relatively new to blogging. I help to maintain the cataloguing blog HVCats but this is the first time I have written a blog post of my own.

I am a cataloguer in a university library. I have worked in various cataloguing roles since 2003. I hope that cpd23 helps me to get into contact with lots of fellow cataloguers and librarians and helps me to continue to widen my horizons. Last September I attended CILIP’s Cataloguing and Indexing group conference at Exeter University. This made realise that it is too easy for me to get caught up in the day-to-day mechanics of my job This in itself is not a bad thing obviously but it is equally important to step back, look at the profession as a whole and learn how you could do things better.

I am looking forward to engaging in all the Things featured in this course. Reflective practice will be a key area for me. I feel that I often complete tasks but do not take the time to review what I have learnt. Organising yourself is another important area; the fact that I am completing the first task in week two says it all!
